a 50 in 52 Project quote from The Crying of Lot 49

A 50 in 52 Project Quote!

“For a moment she’d wondered if the seal around her sockets were tight enough to allow the tears simply to go on and fill up the entire lens space and never dry. She could carry the sadness of the moment with her that way forever, see the world refracted through those tears, those specific tears, as if indices as yet unfound varied in important ways from cry to cry.”

from The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon (that’s him in the photo)

A 50 in 52 Project Quote!

“To all parties present and participating in the life of the county, Aunt Alexandra was one of the last of her kind: she had river-boat, boarding-school manners; let any moral come along and she would uphold it; she was born in the objective case; she was an incurable gossip.”

from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (that’s her in the photo)

50 in 52 Project quotes from The Lord of the Rings

50 in 52 Project Quotes!

Two quotes from The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

“The tale it grew in telling.” (from Tolkien’s forward to the 2nd edition)

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”

1,008 pages later…

Finally – after 1,008 pages, I finished The Lord of the Rings for the 50 in 52 Project, my fundraiser for RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest, National Network)!

I’ve read the book an untold number of times since I was in sixth grade, but this time was tough because of the time constraints. However, there is NO speeding through Tolkien. One must linger and be amazed, and I was (as always).

More info on the next book will be posted soon!

Won’t you please sponsor me in the 50 in 52 Project Reading Challenge?
